Uh Oh. You cant find the manual for the stove range or oven. I’m going to show you where these are most commonly hidden or where you can most often find them. That information is pretty important to have when you need it. When you want to test the resistance on range elements or other information for trouble shooting. So here goes.
So your searching how to do something for your stove. Make a repair or you need a part or you need a model number. You can’t find your manual. It happens you know. It got put away somewhere. It got discarded or you are going to work on a stove and you have some particular technical question. Well pretty cool a lot of these stoves actually have a hidden manual somewhere on the stove.
Some of them they are on the top back left side. Some of them. This particular one is actually on the top back right side. There is a little packet back here. Try to see if I can show you.
Do you see? Let me switch to put a flash on it. Yeah some of them it’s back here. See you can see it here there is the little envelope and can grab it out. Here is our manual for the stove.
On some of the older stoves it is actually underneath the drawer. So you pull out the drawer all the way and than down in the right hand side or left hand side there will be an envelope with the manual.
If you just need the model number a lot of times they are here on the face underneath the drawer. This one definitely needs some cleaning. Other times they will be inside. Usually somewhere on the face here. Just depends on the particular model stove.
Anyway that is where you could find the model if you needed to. Pretty cool. Good to know. Wiring diagram. All that good stuff usually tucked back and hidden either behind the stove or under the drawer. Good to go. Can get you to know what you need to know. Such as how to calibrate. We’ll its not really calibrate but how to adjust the temperature for an oven but anyway a lot of times that information is in these manuals as well. Of course you just want to put put it back for the next person so they can find it as well.
OK. Oftentimes when you go to work on a stove sometimes these get labeled wrong because their both two thirty amp breakers. A lot of times it’s a good idea to just turn both of these off.
Than you know the stove is off for sure. Anyway these are mislabeled. Range air conditioner air conditioner range. It’s not always clear.
Turning them both off is a safe way to go. Also you can just test it at the unit with a circuit alert device but that’s another way. But these are not very clear. I am going to try to make that clearer now.
I just reset this one which was the range and the timer started buzzing so I know for sure that this one is actually the range. So I am gonna take my sharpie and scribble out the air conditioner one.
So for sure we know that it’s the range. And on this one we know for sure that it’s the air conditioner. So I am going to scribble out the range.
Anyway I just wanted to make it clear that those are not always so very clear. Good to go.
OK. Putting a light in this range hood. For this particular range hood because it has got this plastic cover here it is actually a best to use a fluorescent light like this. The fluorescent light is a lot cooler temperature and if you use an incandescent bulb in this spot. Over time it is going to heat up and it is just going to turn this light cover yellow. We don’t want that so using a fluorescent bulb like so is the best way to go to keep that from happening. Of course we need to plug it in for our light to work properly. There we go. Anyway that gives a nice amount of light. This one is a 4100 k light. The 4100k is more white in color and the 2700k more yellow. So the color temperature is nice and bright but the bulb won’t get so hot. Anyway this way it is going to keep that cover from yellowing. Good to go.

So you’ve had your AC running for a while and all of sudden you notice there’s barely any air coming out what’s going on go to the air handle closet and look down and you see a bunch of ice on the line set Frozen about 96% of time this is a dirty air filter. 2% of time this is a dirty coil about 1% of time this is a low refrigerant charge and I’ll leave 1% to other so here I noticed this AC sounded a little funny and saw there’s ice on the unit so immediately I came and turn the unit off and turn the fan on to on to let that melt a lot faster and will also cause when the moisture is running down the evaporator it’ll cause it to hug the evaporate a little bit and run into the pan so it can make a lot of water and it can overflow the pan so you want to put some towels down and monitor the situation to make sure it doesn’t overflow too much maybe use a wet-dry vacuum and vacuum it out if it looks like it’s going to overflow also I turned the breaker off for the air conditioner and the range cuz sometimes these can be labeled wrong but anyway turn the air conditioner breaker off because I’ve seen it happen with a unit got so Frozen that the contactor coil stays Frozen sucked in so I just turned it off and I’m letting everything thaw out and then I’ll reset it and I’ll check it check for a dirty coil I found this one was turned down to 65 degrees and so it has been running like that all night so not good anyway I’ll check it out and change the air filter and clean the coil it’s probably just a dirty air filter and that’s why it froze up but anyway that’s the story there anyways now the air conditioner has a chance to dry out and I didn’t get a flat so that’s good anyway again I pull the cover off and check it out and see how the filter is hello yeah I’d say it was the filter alright anyway I’ll change it out with a new filter and AC will be back in business good to go okay so I went and got my new filter got my coil cleaner and going to go to town on this puppy going to go ahead and turn it over to Cooling because we want the coolant to run while we clean the coil use the hold button and the reason is because the air conditioner removes moisture from the air and that’s how absorbent lot of the heat has a moisture runs down the drain absorbs the moisture into the refrigerant cycles that to the condenser on the roof and releases the heat outside as well and actually moves heat from the unit it’s not so much that it brings cool air in but it brings the hot out now the air conditioner runs at lower speeds in the heater does then on some systems and it’s more effective that removes heat from the air in the lower speeds for air conditioning the lower speeds a little bit better now this coils pretty old you can see some rest on the coil but just going to do the best that I can to make him much better and have a good summer you can see the coil is Pretty Dirty and the filter was pretty dirty the coil inside is probably pretty dirty as well shine some light on it and it’s pretty dirty right so what I have is that no rinse coil cleaner and I’m also going to add condensate tablets to the drain to prevent a clogged as well as to treat the drain with anti-rust anti-mold anticoagulant which helps prevent the dirt from clumping up so here’s the condensate tablets just going to add those to the drain I’m going to add a couple of Top Gear again as the evaporator runs and the moisture runs down there it’s going to mix with the tablets and will release a little bit at a time into the drain and help keep everything going now for the coil cleaner I’ve just got in a pump sprayer here so just going to Pump It Up and real simply just spray on the coil cleaner this is a no rinse coil cleaner it rinses with the condensation and runs down the drain now it’s important to keep the unit running for about 20 minutes after using this stuff now if you know about soap and the way soap works it’s hydrophobic that means it’s afraid of water and it tries to get away from water and the way it does. Is it starts digging under the dirt And tries to get away from the water so the way it does that is digging under the dirt so it acts as a catalyst to release the dirt in the dirt the water can help carry the Dirt away and that’s why the no rinse coil cleaner can work now for a quail this dirty it’s probably not all going to come off in one application it’s going to take a a few rounds probably to treat this well and they get it clean so it’s definitely going to take some time to really do it right but it is what it is and we’re here also spray some coil cleaner on the back side Minnesota says coil up top for the hydraulic oil a bit trickier going to turn it off and spray that one so do that and now I need to wait 5 minutes for the pressures to equalize before I turn it back on but this will allow me to spray it really good and spray the coil up top as well the hydronic heater coil if you want to have a better summer it’s a good idea to try to get things clean and clear and you want to avoid the tip touching any of the coils because it’s very easy to bend the fins and we don’t want the bend any of the fins anyway got the coil cleaner spray down there and getting spray this one some more down here and then will close everything up I’ll put the filter in and we’ll go ahead and run it but you get the idea here sometimes the soap here is enough to watch for a small leak to see if you had a small leak on the coil it would show up and sprayed in the pan here too and getting everything clear and then we’re going to add a new filter now there’s definitely lots of choices and filters out there this particular filter is perfect for this type of environment if you’re going to change your filter every month then the heavier-duty pleated filters might be good because they start right away filtering there the problem is they’re so good at filtration that after a month you have major air restriction so if you’re not going to change your filter every month if you’re only going to change it about every 3 months this is probably the better filter to go with the reason is this filter starts off not filtering as good but then little by little as that collects der it actually starts to filter better and better and you really won’t have a restriction as much till about 3 months so these work good for changing every 3 months and you have to choose your approach based on how are you going to handle the maintenance of your air conditioning system you know if your it’s your own home it’s a lot easier to change every month but if you have allergies you may want to use which called a HEPA filter it filters out smaller Micron sizes and so people with asthma and stuff like that then they want to consider that but it’s a much more expensive filter probably about 25 bucks I filter and you really need to change it every 30 days otherwise it’s going to cause air restriction and then you have an iced up coil and so again you have to take the best approach for your situation and for most people I filter like this changing every 30 days or 90 days is going to be best I said 30 days there but I meant 90 days and good idea to check your smoke alarm at the same time make sure everything’s good but just a little preventative maintenance to keep everything good and keep everything safe sometimes this soapy is enough to watch for a small leak to see if you had a small leak on the coil it would show up and sprayed in the pan here to and getting everything clear and then we can add a new filter mothers definitely lots of choices in filters out there this particular filter is perfect for this type of environment if you’re going to change your filter every month then the heavier duty pleated filters might be good because they start right away filtering there the problem is there so good at filtration that after a month you have major air restriction so if you’re not going to change your filter every month if you’re only going to change it about every 3 months this is probably the better filter to go with the reason is this filter starts off not filtering as good but then little by little This type of air filter starts to filter out better and better and you really don’t have a restriction as much so it works better for every 3 months so you have to kind of choose your approach based on how often you change it so you know if it’s your own home it’s easier to change it every month if you have allergies you may want to use what’s called a HEPA filter it’s a high efficiency particle arrestor holds back smaller particle sizes so people with asthma and stuff like that they may want to consider that but it’s a much more expensive filter probably about 25 bucks a filter and you really need to change it every 30 days otherwise it’s going to cause air restriction and then you can have a nice step coil and so again you have to take the best approach for your situation and for most people I filter like this changing it every 30 days I said 30 days but I meant 90 days it was good idea to check your smoke alarm at the same time to make sure everything’s good just a little preventative maintenance to keep everything good and keep everything safe so now I’m going to turn this on and on and make sure I keep it running for about 20 minutes and that’s going to clear it up and for something as dirty as this one you may need to go a few times you know a couple more treatments of the Enviro coil cleaner this is an environmentally friendly no rinse coil cleaner it’s one of my favorite coil cleaners because it does the job and it won’t hurt your plants and stuff like that in your yard if your conversation Runs Out to the yard anyway thanks for watching Kung Fu maintenance hope that helps you guys safe stay safe out there and help your repair Jobs go nice and easy hope you can get to the preventive maintenance that you need to do so that you have a really nice summer with none of those night experiences we have no AC cuz that’s enough fun nice to keep it nice and chilly nice and comfortable how you like it if you like it chilly anyway that’s how I like it air nice and clean and things working like this should thanks for watching Kung Fu Maintenance over and out I’ll just turn it on here back on cool drop it down hit my hold button and good to go keep it running for about 20 minutes and I’ll probably give it another 2 or 3 sprays just to keep it all going good and I just remembered I forgot to turn the breakers back on hear the condenser on the roof kick on I forgot to turn the breakers on after I turn them off last time in case the contact you got stuck because the coil was frozen anyway I can run the coil cleaner away feeling starting to get cold as the refrigerant cycles through yep that will clean it up
Today on Kung Fu Maintenance it’s a bad one! Going to take you from this to this!
Show you a nice easy trick.
Welcome back to Kung Fu Maintenance where I show you how to make the most likely repairs you’ll need to make in your lifetime if you’d like to get the latest video subscribe and then hit the little bell icon right of the Subscribe button and it will notify you of any new videos when they’re released for you.
All right here’s a stain. It’s a bad one. We’ll see which if anything if this will get it. So that did not get it but here’s the trick. Peroxide. Of course you want to test this in an inconspicuous area such as somewhere around the corner in the closet or something for color fastness. You don’t want to use this if it’s going to bleach everything out but for this situation this was the best thing to get the stain out which was an impossible stain. But it really didn’t take much just leaving the peroxide on for a while, letting its do it thing, and basically discolor the stain and then take the color out of the stain and then I was able to extract it with a carpet cleaning machine. But you can do the same thing with a wet-dry vacuum and some hot water but the peroxide was the key. Again you’re going to want to contest’s it in an inconspicuous area around the corner in the closet somewhere out of sight completely out of sight make sure it doesn’t bleach out the carpet or take away its colorfastness but that was the trick to get rid of Mission Impossible carpet stains. Berry bad pun intended. I like puns and I like nice clean carpet and things to work right. Yep, it’s a simple trick but what a difference! Took it right out just a cheap peroxide from Walmart or the dollar store works good.
Coming soon to Kung Fu Maintenance!
Yesterday had a major power outage which was a catalyst to a bunch of earthquake preparedness videos. I also received a call to evacuate due to a nearby fire but it was far away and there was no need to evacuate so that was well it made for a strange day yesterday and that’s why I didn’t get a video up yesterday but that’s okay. Turned into a bunch more videos for you. Yeah!
Kung Fu Maintenance demonstrates the trouble shooting of an air conditioner that won’t turn on. Diagnosing through testing that the breaker is bad.
We’ve got an AC not working. I actually already replaced the fuses and checked it out. We’ve got power here, but it’s not working. The compressor’s not hot, and the top of the fan motor’s not hot, so that leads me to look at the contactor. Looking at the contactor the contactor is just fine. It’s like brand new. I think it’s actually our capacitor, so I’m going to change that out. This is a dual cap, so it’s pretty simple to change out. I’m going to go ahead and pull my disconnect right here. I’ve got the brand new fuses in there. I’m going to go ahead and discharge the capacitor. Now when I check the voltage with my circuit alert device, we can change the capacitor safely. I’ll go grab that.
OK, so I’m changing out the dual cap here. I’ve got my new one. You always want to make sure it’s the same microfarad. This is a 35.5 microfarad. So we’re going to connect herm, common and fan just the way it is here. We’ve got to loosen the holder here, and then slip each of the leads off. This yellow one is for the herm, or hermetic. It’s not a bad idea to replace the hard start kit at the same time, but this one looks pretty new. There we go, herm. Make sure our leads are all nice and tight. Here’s our fan wire. Let’s get our fan going. Again, make sure that’s nice and tight if not we can tighten these up. When it’s fairly tight then I’m going to squeeze that down just a tiny bit on those two. That’s good. We’re ready to go.
There’s another way to wire this. You could do a single cap, a 35, and then do a single 5, put one wire to one side of the 5 and then a jumper wire going over, but that’s another story. I’ll save that for another video. I’ll show you that sometime if not today. Tuck this back here nice and secure. Then I’ll go ahead and fire it up or plug in our disconnect right here. That’s not good. OK. I’ll try. OK. The question is what’s going on. I’m going to pull the disconnect again and discharge the cap. Take a great look at all of our wire leads and verify everything is as it should be. And it’s there in front. Let’s check our wire in here. Everything is nice and solid there. The only thing it could be is this hard start kit or the contactor, so I’m going to grab both of them and just change them out. I’ll start with the hard start kit first. I also could verify we have both legs of power on both sides of the contactor or both sides of the wiring. It’s possible we lost a hot.
Definitely a strange one here. It could be a breaker. It also could just be that hard start kit. I’m going to start with that. Again I’ll just grab the contactor too while I’m down there. Here’s our new hard start kit. I’m just going to go one leg to each side. We’re all set there. I brought my multi meter also, so we may need to check out what’s going on here. I’m getting it set to volts. We’ll take a look here. Here are both sides of my fuses, and I may need to check there also. I plugged in the disconnect, but definitely no action here. I’m going to check for voltage across the contactor. This one’s pretty dangerous. This has got voltage live, so here we go. I’m going to check at the ground and then at each hot, one on each side. There’s 120 on that side, and 120 on that side. Up above across the contact we’ve got 120, and we’ve got 120. Going to both sides we do not have 220, which we should. Go into the bottom. We don’t have 220. I think we have a bad breaker inside the unit, but I’m going to do is check the disconnect box here.
Again, this is very dangerous high voltages. Power comes in on the sides and what we’re going to check for is voltage. The voltage out the sides. Going from each side to the ground we’ll put one lead on the ground and then one lead on the voltage. We’ve got a 120. We do not have 120 on this side, so we have a bad breaker or we have a bad connection here. This connection looks good. I think we’ve got a bad breaker. I can try tightening this up holding only the insulated portion of the screwdriver, and that’s nice and tight. I think I’m just going to re-verify here. Test into the ground. Yes, we’ve got a bad breaker inside because we should have voltage in that side also. What’s happening is we’re only getting one side of the voltage, so I’ll replace the breaker and we’ll be back in business. There it is, the broken off breaker. It’s completely broken off, so it was only getting one side of the breaker connected. That’s why one leg was connected we had 120, just not 220 or 240. It’s all fixed and good to go.
Alright. Annoying sound right? You’d be surprised how many times I have cleaners clean and they can’t figure out how to turn this buzzer off and they will go and turn the breaker out for the stove. But it’s really easy. On these old timers all you got to to do is just turn it to the off position. It says off right there. Just turn it right there. Just the timer but that’s an easy way to turn it off. Good to go.

OK. Today I am replacing some telephone jacks. Switching them to white here. These are really low voltage so the voltage is not really a concern. What you do want to do is mimic your colors on your deals.
Telephone lines come in paired wires. At least the newer ones do. The older wires were read and green and yellow and black would be a pair. So that’s what I will be mimicking today. The red and green. Hooks up to this one my particular yeah it’s green and that’s red. Red, green, yellow, and black. The same way that it is so that’s nice and easy. I have a lot of mine where it was wired backwards where it would be red going to green and green going to red. You know if it has been working for thirty years that way probably better to just mimic exactly what you have got going on. So this one was the correct colors so I am just going to go with that.
Telephone Wall Jack Plate Change
OK. So we’ve got red here and green here. The wire is really easy to work with. It is also easy to break. It is also easy to trim if you need to. To Take the sheathing off you can actually just use your fingernail. To re strip the wire. It’s really simple here. Here’s the yellow one and there’s the black one. Just definitely want to avoid the wires touching each other. And we are all set there ready to install the cover. Nice and easy.
Going to orient this the correct way. Newer telephone lines use paired colors of wires. So you might have blue and blue and white being one pair. So that would go to green and red. Or you might have orange and orange and white and that would go to yellow and black. So usually your phone line uses one set of those lines. So it might use the blue and the blue and white and that would be your phone line. And than your DSL would use the second paired line which would be like your orange and orange and white.
Probably not quite as many people using phones these days. But maybe some people using DSL and probably still a few people use the phone service. Seems like most people are switching over to cell phones. There we go. Nice new telephone wall plate. I’d say it’s an improvement. Good to go.
Okay today I’m going to be showing you how to secure a loose surface range element. Got a loose surface range element right here. What it should have is a set screw underneath.
As you can see this one is just floating around freely and that’s not good. This ones missing the screw. I was able to find another one that I had salvaged from another unit
Anyway, this one just screws in here in the little screw port here. And once you get the screw started, you can see the two teeth there just get anchored up and underneath right here and than tightened down like so.
You can also use a nut driver but this is where a six in one comes in real handy so you can get in there and tighten it down. The next trick with these is to make sure that the range pan goes below.
You can see here the ring goes on top and the pan goes below. Sometimes these are a little tricky to set doesn’t want to sit down so I was able to set that one down a little bit better.
Slip the pan underneath first, and than the ring on top. Like so. And we’re all set there. Again that can look a little bit better.Let me lower this down just a tiny bit.
Sometimes you will have one of these that is a little bit stubborn to get it to seat nice and flush. There we go now that is nice and flush.
Good to go anyway that is how to secure a loose range element. Now this will still move around a little bit which is ok. But at least it is anchored in there and behaving the way that it should.
Kung Fu Maintenance shows how people can use KungFuMaintenance videos and The KFM Blog to help learn and improve English while learning maintenance skills through the translations and closed captioning available on many videos. How to learn and improve your english while having fun watching youtube videos.
00:10 Welcome to the Kung Fu Maintenance control panel!
00:12 On this day I will show you how
00:16 you could get better in your English Easily
00:20 reading, writing, understanding
00:21 improving
00:23 pronunciation, dialogue, all these aspects
00:25 what I have to show is how to use the closed captions application in
00:29 youtube
00:30 I have not captioned all my videos
00:32 I have begun here to do this
00:35 and to translate
00:36 Let me make this video full size.
00:40 How it works is down at the bottom is it places these captions
00:44 provided you switch them on.
00:46 Allow me to demonstrate the way that is done. On the very bottom
00:50 click on this small “cc” button right here
00:54 and that enables the captions
00:56 and now you click on the captions button
00:59 and you can show your language so let’s say spanish, russian, portuguese
01:04 japanese, italian, german, french,
01:07 chinese, arabic
01:08 I want to add more languages as time goes on. If you do not see your
01:12 language here please comment on the video asking for
01:15 your language and
01:17 I will contemplate adding it if it is possible for me to arrange it. Also as time goes on I
01:21 could use help with translations so
01:24 if you would like to help
01:25 translate or proof translations you can also leave a
01:28 message here. I intend to do a lot of videos and
changing them over
01:32 sometimes the translations may not be that great
01:36 so lets
01:37 test this one “today I wanted to go over the five most common problems with washing machines”
01:41 converted to spanish
01:43 it says it in spanish. Now i’m not sure of the accuracy
01:47 you will have to let me know
01:50 I poquitho(Spanish for tiny) understand only a tiny
01:51 bit of Spanish
01:54 not enough to translate these words but i do try to learn, I like to learn
01:58 different languages it ss just something I have been studying
02:00 anyway
02:01 so here it is in Arabic and
02:05 here it is in Chinese
02:07 so if you wanted to improve your
02:09 English
02:10 this would be a way
02:12 you can show the subtitles in your language and
02:17 put on the video
02:18 and you will be able tolearn
02:20 two things, well a few things. You will be able to learn how to fix things plus
02:26 learn another language so hopefully that will help you
02:30 one more item here
02:33 Let me pause the video here
02:36 and go to my
02:38 blog site The KFM Blog
02:41 the way you can get here
02:42 is going to my channel
02:44 I just clicked on my channel here the
KungFuMaintenance channel and I have
02:48 a link here to The KFM Blog
02:52 now on the blog
02:53 I have got many blogs and have begun adding the translations
02:57 from the
02:57 the youtube videos under each
03:00 video blog so
03:02 for example this one is all translated
and it has the time segments so that you can
03:07 understand it easier but the
03:09 thing that is really nice about this
03:12 about my site here
03:14 is that at the lower part of the page
03:15 is a translator that allows you to translate
in into your language so
03:21 if you wanted to read it in another language
for example let us say you comprehend Hebrew
03:24 very well but you don’t understand English so good
03:27 than you can
03:28 click here
03:29 and convert it into Hebrew
03:31 than you can read the posts in Hebrew
03:33 and watch the video
03:34 right along with it so
03:37 as time goes on I am hope to be adding more and more to this
03:40 again you will most likely see some mistakes so
03:43 you have to look at it with a
03:46 grain of salt here but
03:47 as time progresses I am going to have to add this and edit and fix
03:51 varios problems there may be some funny stuff
03:54 I have already had some pretty humorous things
occur with the translation
03:58 hopefully nothing offensive in there with the translation please forgive me if
04:03 that happens, it is not me I do not translate this I do not comprehend
04:06 these languages I don’t know how to speak Finish or German
04:09 I attempt to learn
04:11 things a tiny bit but I am far off from actually comprehending those things
04:16 so I hope this project helps if you’re
04:18 out there wanting to learn english and acquire some maintenance skills
04:22 as you go. This is a convinient way to
absorb
04:25 a few things cosecutively so I hope
you like, favorite, and subscribe
04:29 and if you
04:31 want there is a donate button
here that helps me do what I do
04:35 Allow me to change this back
04:38 to English here let us see here it is
04:41 and now it is translating it back into
English so
04:44 also here is a link to my book
04:46 on the blog here
04:49 and here is the donate button where you can
04:51 purchase me a mug of java
04:52 which would be awesome
04:53 enables me do what I do and put
04:56 some more power into it
04:57 kick start me on future blogs
04:59 or on future videos
05:01 In conclusion I hope the videos further your efforts
05:03 hope you like this video hope it enables some of you out there. Thank You for watching!
